Why an LPA matters
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) lets you (Donor) appoint someone (Donee) you trust to make decisions on your behalf, should you ever lose mental capacity — through illness, injury, or age. Without one, your family can't simply step in.
An LPA, made while you still have full mental capacity, avoids this altogether. You choose who decides, and under what authority — long before that decision is ever needed. It's simpler, more affordable, and only takes effect if capacity is lost.
The best time to plan is before you need to.

Book an Appointment
Choose a convenient date and time for your LPA certification consultation — at home, hospital bedside, or care facility.

Assessment & Certification
The doctor assesses your mental capacity and, if appropriate, completes the Certificate Issuer certification in person.
03
OPG Submission & Confirmation
Your LPA is submitted to the Office of the Public Guardian. After a mandatory 3-week registration period, you and your Donee(s) receive confirmation and your LPA is in force.
